Dr. William Condon and Dr. Kenneth Rix founded the Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital in 1972, just two years after they graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. While each doctor gained experience working in separate veterinary practices, they sought a partnership... To grow a successful practice together and to devote time to their growing families as well.



After some careful market research to determine where there was a genuine need for veterinary care, the young doctors decided to locate their practice in - and move their families closer to - the Tiverton and Little Compton region collectively referred to as Sakonnet. They effectively transformed a garage into a temporary veterinary hospital. Five months later, they moved into the first part of the building where the office stands today.



Over the years, Sakonnet Veterinary Hospital has remained committed to expanding the technical staff, the instrumentation and technology, and hospital facility. The first major renovation took place in 1986 with the addition of an examining room, a multi-purpose lab-surgical prep-dental space, a business office, and a library-conference room. A 90-animal boarding kennel and an after-hours treatment area to monitor pets on overnight stays and to maintain building security came next. In 2007, SVH underwent another major expansion, adopting the current configuration with a dedicated dentistry area, laboratory, library, and conference-meeting rooms, plus additional examination and office space.
