The University of Florida Veterinary Medical Center (UFVMC) is an integral part of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, serving as a major animal referral center for the entire Southeast.

The Veterinary Medical Center is organized into individual specialty referral services. The Hospital includes board-certified specialists, as well as Support Services such as anesthesiology, intensive care, radiology, pathology and diagnostic laboratory medicine.


Approximately 15,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and iguanas, among other species, are admitted or treated at the Small Animal Hospital each year.

On any given day at our teaching hospital, veterinary students performing their clinical rotations are exposed to a wide range of services including: small animal medicine, small animal surgery, dermatology, cardiology, anesthesiology, clinical microbiology/parasitology, clinical pathology, anatomical pathology, surgical pathology, neurology, ophthalmology, reproduction, and wildlife and zoological medicine.

The primary missions of the UFVMC are:

To provide a clinical teaching forum for the clinical component of the veterinary curriculum.
To function as a secondary and tertiary referral center for the treatment of pets, exotic animals and wildlife in Florida and in the Southeastern United States.
To provide routine health care for a nucleus of clients to prepare veterinary students for practice.
To provide consultations to practicing veterinarians and individual animal owners
To provide a training environment for residents and interns.
To support the college's overall teaching, research and service programs.
